the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia is both a home and a work of art.
At Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona, a newly completed Contemporary
blends harmoniously with its dramatic Southwestern surroundings. Two
Mediterranean-style villas in Montecito, California, complement architectural
achievement with lavish interiors and lush surroundings. In Manhattan,
a penthouse of grand proportions occupying the three uppermost floors
of one of the city’s most coveted buildings encompasses views

2010
OLYMPICS TO BE HELD IN VANCOUVER-WHISTLER
In
early July, the International Olympic Committee announced that
the 2010 Olympic Winter Games had been awarded to the Vancouver-Whistler
area. While the approach of the Olympics will affect this beautiful
locale in a myriad of ways, its impact on local real estate will
be one of the most significant. In a market in which there is
very little new inventory being built, the Olympics will undoubtedly
mean an increased demand for property ownership along with a
steady rise in real estate prices over the next few years. The
Christie’s Great Estates affiliates in Whistler—Sea
to Sky Real Estate and Macdonald
Realtors—supported the
2010 bid and look forward to the benefits and challenges that
the 2010 Olympics will bring to area.
HOWARD
HANNA REAL ESTATE AND SMYTHE, CRAMER CO., REALTORS MERGE
The
merger of two Christie’s Great Estates affiliates on June
10 has created a one of the largest real estate firms in the
country.
Pittsburgh-based
Howard Hanna Real Estate and Cleveland-based Smythe, Cramer Co.,
Realtors are two of the nation’s most successful firms.
Their merger has resulted in the country’s ninth-largest
full-service real estate organization in the U.S. The new company
will also rank among the top-five independent residential real
estate firms and will be the sixth-largest mortgage lending company.
The
unified organization now has 105 office locations with more than
3,000 sales associates and employees in six contiguous metropolitan
areas in western, central, and northern Pennsylvania; northeastern
Ohio; northern West Virginia; and southwest New York. Although
the firms are merging into one operation, they will keep existing
policies, management teams, realtors, and employees in place.
They have also agreed to continue operating under their existing
brands, which have already gained tremendous equity in the marketplace.
Howard “Hoddy” Hanna
III, president and CEO of Hanna Holdings, Inc., becomes president
and CEO of the new organization. “We’re two
companies that have similar philosophies and have built our strengths
on quality service, integrity and professionalism," said
Hanna. “This union brings together first-rate real estate
professionals from two of the most respected and trusted companies
in our business and blends them into one unified organization,” said
Lucius B. McKelvey, chairman of Smythe, Cramer Co., which is
celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
The
merger’s expanded geography and 50 percent growth of sales
associates provide a strengthened and increased internal sales
referral network. “We’re looking forward to unleashing
significant combined resources, abilities, and energies,” McKelvey
said. “We’re going to improve the already top-grade
services our firms have been providing for years to home and
commercial property sellers and buyers.”
